SILENCED!
BAN ON PREACHER SUNDAY SERMONS CEASE PATRICK KELLY’S conversion campaign, conducted with admirable energy each Sunday morning at the corner of Wyndham and Albert Streets, has ended. The police caught him yesterday. For the last few Sundays he made effective break-aways, but yesterday he failed. Kelly was charged at the Police Court this morning with behaving in a disorderly manner. Senior-Sergant Edwards said that accused claimed to be the only living man who could propound the Scriptures. He harangued a crowd yesterday, and if he only gave up preaching he would be all right. He had been a mental hospital patient. LIKES HARANGUING Mr. Dickson, who appeared for accused, said- he liked haranguing crowds, and most of his remarks were not too friendly towards the church of which he was a member. He thought he was running a conversion campaign. Accused (to the magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean) You’ve got delusions —not me. Mr. McKean: I think you had better go back to the mental hospital. Kelly: No, I don’t want that. The magistrate: How long have you been preaching? "Six or seven years, and I’ve never had a scratch.” replied accused. The magistrate: Is this going to continue? Accused: No fear —it will take my solicitor all his time to get me out ot this. , , _ . Kellv was convicted and ordered lo come up for sentence if called upon in six months.
