“PARADISE FOR TWO” Further interest is added to the superb programme at the Regent Theatre by the inclusion of the first and exclusive photographic record of the epic flight from New York to Paris of the now-idol of the world, Captain Charles Lindbergh. The film shows this heroic American’s departure trom New York, and his arrival in Paris, which was the signal for a tumultuous demonstration. The Paramount l'arce, ‘‘Paradise for Two,” starring Richard Dix, with Betty Bronson, is one of the most refreshing comedies seen here for a long time. The ever-pleasing Dix, as Steve Porter, the handsome and affluent young bachelor, who never can say no to the pr'etty young things who panhandle him for money, adds another ray of light to his shining star of popularity. Other peculiar problems that Dix has to face in this newest starring role of his are a fortune that is not his unless he gets married, and he doesn’t want to get married, an irate uncle with a lock on the Porter inheritance, and who insists that the key to the strong box is a wedding ring for Richard, and a pretty girl, Silly Lane, with whom he falls in love, after hiring her to pose as his wife. There are complications to the plot that form situations to make an audience hold its sides in laughter, and there are scenes that bring the suspicion of a catch in the throat. Andre Beranger, as Maurice, the stage producer, and Edmund Breese as Uncle Howard, in their able character interpretation, add. much to make the picture as fine as Dix has ever done. Jeannette Gerrard, of J. C. Williamson Celebrity Vaudeville, presents with great success his novelty and musical Montmatre scena, and another special musical programme is played by the operatic orchestra, under the baton of Maurice Guttridge. At the Mighty Wurlitzer. Eddie Horton plays Rubenstein’s Melody in F, and “Demande and Response” (Coleridge-Taylor).
