HOME’S BEST!

HOLLYWOOD INDIANS Life in Hollywood does not please everyone. It may be a tjirill to the tourist in the East, but it is only a pain in the neck to a group of Indians brought off the Navajo reservation by Director John Waters to play in “Drums of the Desert.” The Navajos were frankly bored after a few weeks of Holy-wood’s famous excitements. They complained that the pavements hurt their feet. They did not like the people, and they did not like the town, and they wanted to go home. The homesick Indians lent local colour to a desert picture starring Marietta Millner, European beauty; Warner Baxter and Ford Sterling.

Esther Ralston was born in Bar Harbour, Maine, on September 17, 1902. She is sft sJin tall, and weighs 1251 b. Miss Ralston first appeared on the stage at the early age of two. “Huckleberry Finn” was her first Paramount picture. Miss Ralston likes to danc< and swim, but horseback riding is her favourite diversion. She will appear in Auckland this month in “Old Ironsides.”

Henry Manjou, brother of Adolphe Menjou, who plays a prominent role in “Rolled Stockings,” a story of college life, helped instruct Richard Arlen in the art of rowing for purposes of the production, which was made at the University of California.

Menjou was a member of the Cornell crew of 1913, and although Arlen had become a finished oarsman while at the Duluth Rowing Club some years ago, the Cornell was able to give him points.
