LATE TURF

FINAL TRY-OUTS TRENTHAM’S BUSY MORNING BEAU CAVALIER AND WEDDING MARCH DISAPPOINT Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. At Trentham this morning Deluge and Oratrix went very well over half a mile in 52sec. The former proved the better of the pair. Indian Sage went alone five furlongs in 1.65, going well, Nadarino doing a similar task in 1.8. Kilperon and Bronstell got to the end of half a mile in 53sec., and Catkin and Quantum separately ran three furlongs in 38sec., going well. Golden Prospect took 54Jsec. for half a mile, and Royal Head did a useful half-mile. Brigadier Bill appeared to be going better than Ngata at the end of seven furlongs, with Omahu a couple of lengths away, in 1.38 4-5, the first half-mile in 551 sec. OVER THE STICKS Captain Sarto (H. McSweeney) and Great Day (N. Syme) jumped well three hurdles in the centre of the course, Great Day giving a much improved display. Captain Sarto subsequently sprinted half a mile in 54sec, going in great style. Glenidle, alone, was huried over six in 1.245. Arpent, who appears in rare buckle, was not doing his best at any part of a gallop over half a mile in 53 2-5. Degage was too good for Aro de Val over half in 52. Degage could have done better. King Lu and Waltzer went a solid five on the plough, and both hit out exceptionally well. Flitter, with a good weight up, took 55 for half a mile, and Ned Kelly was going easily in front of Outfit at the end of half a mile in 53. Ned Kelly hit out very well. Passionate and Kawini both hit out in good style over seven, Passionate finishing in front in 1.34 4-ssec. SMART SPRINT Carrigallan as usual set the time for the best of the morning, sprinting half in 50 4-5, the last three in 37sec. Gauntlet, Vexatious and Lady Passenger schooled in company over three hurdles, with not much between them, Gauntlet possibly going best. Perle de Leon (E. Warner) and Gaze (A. McDonald) were schooled in company over three hurdles. Gaze gave the better display, but- his mate could be excused, as he appeared to slip into two fences, but extricated himself cleverly. Subdivision showed plenty of dash over half a mile with Town Hall in FAVOURITE NOT IMPRESSIVE Beau Cavalier (S. Henderson) went over five steeplechase fences. He was slow at his fences, the effort being unimpressive, but probably he would have done a great deal better with a mate. York Abbey (W. Rennie) shaped particularly well for a novice over three hurdles. Lord Star did a similar task, ridden by Rennie. OwnerTrainer R. Hannon should win some good money with this pair in jumping events. Royal Picture and Tresham were both going nicely at the end of half in 54Sec. Delightment and Thurnus were both going well at the end of six in 1.21 — a useful effort. Bonena hit out well in a half-mile sprint in 55 4-ssec. Fairy Tidings registered an easy four. Royal Abbey (W. Rennie) and Wedding March (D. Butler) set out to jump five steeplechase fences. Wedding March did not jump well, and was pulled off at the third fence, some of his gear having broken. Royal Abbey went on and gave a good display. NOT ENCOURAGING Wedding March afterwards jumped the three remaining fences, but much too big and slow. It was not at all an encouraging effort for those who fancied him in the Steeplechase. Master Doon was going better than Pantagruel at the end of half in 54 1-5. Royal Mint and Mint Leaf rah down easily from the half-mile post in 56. SIX OVER FENCES A miniature steeplechase was staged over five fences, with six contestants — Banjuke (N. Syme), Hokioi (P. McBrearty), Tuki (E. Warner), Scamp (E. Mackie), Zircon (E. Garrett), and Sir Wai (H. Gordon). They finished in the order named, after going practically that way throughout. Both Banjuke and Hokioi shaped particularly well, considering the class of the others. Tuki made many friends by his display, for he fenced in faultless style. Scamp, a big fellow, screwed about at two of his fences, but no doubt there are possibilities about him. Zircon showed plenty of dash, and no doubt could have been up with the leaders if necessary. Sir Wai tailed off all the way. He disgraced the party. They all did solid pace work on the flat afterwards. TWO ELLERSLIE HURDLERS Rahepoto (E. Stanway) showed more, dash than Kamehameha (S. Henderson) in a gallop over three hurdles. Subsequently the pair were joined by Mount Marta over six furlongs in 1.235. Mount Marta finishing just in front of the others. Comical did a solid round, and was then joined by Gold Rain, the pahrunning home from the seven post in 1.385. Dick (E. Warner) and Royal Form (E. Garrett) gave just a fair display over three flights of hurdles. Potoanui and Highflown were together over seven in 1.3 S 3-5. Sir Moment was allowed to stride along over half a mile.

Ladyfingers got through a useful task. Crown Coin did only easy pace work. Cassolette, alone, took 56 for half a mile, and was not knocked about*
