GLORIOUS PAGEANT

BALL AT TOWN HALL The careless gaiety and abandon of the Riviera. Hundreds of dancing girls emptied from a fairy bower into the Town Hall. A “feast of flora,” the splendour of which will equal a Drury Lane production. Rhythmic beauty of the South Seas. All these attractions—and many more—will be staged for the delectation of Auckland folk on July 28. A glorious pageant ball will herald the New Zealand National Festival which will excel anything of the kind ever done in the Southern Hemisphere. This is what Mr. Albert Goldie, the organiser, says: “We are endeavouring to give Auckland in October and November next a replica of the joyous carnivals which draw people every year from many countries to the Riviera and Southern Italy. Therefore in heralding the event with a fancy dress ball at the Town Hall, why not give Auckland a taste of the gaiety which prevails at the popular European dance-halls? “There will be great fun. Mr. Frank Adeane, of the Competitions Society, has entered into a conspiracy which can only be revealed in the strictest confidence, to burlesque the coming carnival.

Maurice Gilman’s popular Regent Band will be augmented for the night and the ball should be the merriest ever staged in this city. Madame Edith Baird, the celebrated London producer, will arrange the ballets and dances. Only 500 tickets will be available. Get in early.
