The two League gan\es between New South Wales and Queensland must have brought a mint of money, into the coffers of the New South Wales League. The attendance at the first match, which the Cornstalks won 14—10, was 56,000, and at last Saturday’s match, won by New South Wales again 13 —11, the attendance was estimated to be anything up to 65,000. Only once has a possibly bigger crowd been accommodated at the Sydney Cricket Ground, and that was when 65.378 went through the turnstiles in the Englishmen’s match against a Sydney team a year or two ago. It is considered that had the accommodation been available, the attendances would have been nearer 80,000 for the Queensland matches. The latest proposal is to build a mammoth two-decker stand on the “hill.”

Rowing in N.Z. Universities. —When our university football representatives were in Sydney during their recent tour they were so struck with the gathering of varsity crews from the six States of Australia on the Nepean that some of them resolved to put in hand the formation of university rowing clubs on their return. Our universities do not bulk large in respect of the numbers of undergraduates attending them. Still, when such secondary schools as Wanganui and others can make a feature of rowing the universities, especially Auckland and Christchurch, should be able to do their bit. The Australian universities row for the Oxford and Cambridge Cup which is held in every Australian State in turn. Australians are of the opinion the inclusion of Maoriland would add greatly to the interest taken already in the event. There certainly was a boat race at the recent intervarsity tournament in Auckland, but it was more of a novelty event than anything else.
