Death From Poisoning. —Frederick James Lawrenson, aged 49, of Islington, died in the Christchurch Hospital last evening from the effects of poisoning.— Press Association.

Compensation Agreed On. —The Arbitration Court was not called on to hear the cS.se McCarthy v. J. C. Ruston and Co. yesterday, the case being settled before the Court assembled.

Ship's Trimmer Injured. —Alfred lies, aged 22, a trimmer on the lonic, fell 25ft. down the after-hold yesterday morning and broke an arm and a leg. He is now in the Christchurch Hospital.

Remanded on Serious Charge. —The three men, Robert Grant Baston, Walter James Alexander Mitchell and Harry Allen Fellingham, who were charged in Christchurch recently with illegally using an instrument, have again been remanded to July 12.

Charge of Stealing Lead. —Thomas Henry Edwards, aged 54, charged at the Police Court this morning with being idle and disorderly and stealing lead piping valued at 2s, was remanded for a week.

International Labour Meeting. —The authorities at the Melbourne Trades Hall have been advised by the British Commonwealth Conference that the next Labour and Socialist International Congress will meet at London on July 30, 1928.—A. and N.Z.

Obtaining Goods by Fraud. — In Christchurch to-dav a man named Arthur Reginald Bariand was sentenced to two months’ hard labour on charges of obtaining goods by fraud. He represented himself as acting for wellknown social workers.
