OLD RAILWAY ENGINES

NEW USE FOUND (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. Fourteen old railway locomotives have just been dumped by the Railway Department into the river in Southland to form part of the protection works. This is now the usual fate of old engines, which are seldom worth breaking up. Not so long ago several of them were dropped into the bed of the Bealey River to stem the stream at flood time.
