Boys Charged With Arson

Fire in Normal School Involved in Other Outbreaks IN the Children’s Court this morning two boys, one aged 14 and the other 15, were charged with setting fire to the Normal School on Sunday. *

TOURING the case Chief-Detective Cummings stated that the boys had set fire to about half-a-dozen other places and had given numerous false alarms to the fire brigade.

The same two boys, with another boy aged 15, were then charged with setting fire to Kennelly’s store at Freeman’s Bay. The boys appeared before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., to-day at the Children s Court, and were remanded until July 16.

Chief-Detective Cummings said that at 4 o’clock on Sunday the two boys first mentioned had set fire to the motor tyres under the Normal School, thereby setting the building alight. He also made the statement about the boys setting other places alight. The remand to July 16 was granted, the boys to remain in the charge of the Welfare Officer unless the parents could satisfy the court that thfey were capable of looking after them in the meantime.
