EXPORTS FOR 1926 An analysis of the car exports from Great Britain during 1926 has been made by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, and Australia appears as England’s best customer with New Zealand a bad second. Australia’s imports consisted largely of chassis, while New Zealand showed a distinct preference for completed cars. Of the 15,212 exports to Australia, no less than 13,765 were chassis, while New Zealand’s total of 2,609 included only 657 car chassis. The advanced nature of the Australian body-building industry, and the encouraging tariffs which are levied on bare chassis are responsible for the marked preference for the incomplete vehicle. France 47 75 122 Among the countries taking very small numbers of British cars was the United States with an importation of only 45 for the year. Germany took 49, Russia 39, Japan 92, and Siam 117. The average price of the British cars exported during 1926 was £220. France bought the most expensive British cars and the average of the exports to that country was £550.
