PERSONAL. —Captain L. A. Gilley, well known in Auckland, died in hospital at Melbourne on June 10, after a severe operation. Captain Gilley visited Auckland several times as master of the American steamers *West Cahokia and West Carmona. He was in command of the West Carmona when she was at Auckland in May last.

The Northern Company’s vessel' Waiotahi has resumed running - after undergoing annual overhaul and survey. Captain E. H. Goertz is in command and the following are his officers:—Chief, Mr. T. Hopkins; second, Mr. T. Beardsliaw; chief engineer, Mr. C. Mitchell; second, Mr. H. J. Yardine.

Captain Maylen has transferred from the Regulus to the Alexander. Captain Graham has transferred from the Waimea to the Regulus. Captain Eden has taken command of the Totara in place of Captain W. Wahlstrom, who is now on the W aimea.

Mr. N. M. Bonetti has relieved Mr. J. L. Adams as chief officer of the Kurow. The latter is ashore on private leave.

Mr. P. E. Ryan has relieved Mr. S. E. Gaskin as chief officer of the Kurow,

Mr. R. Allison has joined the Kamo as third officer, in place of Mr. J. W. S. Madden, who Is ashore for orders. Mr| L. G. Ramsay, chief officer of the Kamo, is ashore at Wellington; his place has been taken by Mr. W. E. Jones.

Mr. S. C. Angus, second officer of the Maheno. has been appointed chief officer of the Kowhai at Melbourne, relieving Mr. O. C. Bray, who is proceeding to Wellington for instructions.

Captain A. B. Sizer, of the Waikouai ti, and Captain Ross Clark, of the Kurow. have exchanged vessels.

Mr. C. Sinclair, second officer of the Kurow, is at present ashore at Wellington.

Mr. T. P.. Evans is now acting-chief officer of the Manuka, in place of Mr. D. N. McLeish, who is at present, “standing by.

Mr. G. W. Kent has relieved Mr. T. Dee as chief officer of the Corinna. The latter officer is on holiday.

Mr. D. A. Menlove has succeeded Mr. J. Y. Jeboult as third officer of tffe Kauri.

TAHITI FOR SYDNEY. —In continuation of her voyage from San Francisco. via ports, the "Union Company advises that the R.M.S. Tahiti is expected to leave Wellington at 3 pan. to-day for Sydney, where she is duo next Saturday.

NEWCASTLE STEAMERS. The Union Company advises that the Whangape sailed from Newcastle at 7 a.m. last Saturday for Auckland, and is due here on Friday. The_ Kaitoke has been fixed to load at Newcastle on July 14 for Auckland.

TONGARIRO LEAVES COLON. — The New Zealand Snipping Company has been notified that the Tongariro arrived at Panama on June 27 from Wellington, and left Colon on the same date for London. She sailed from Wellington on June 6.

MAKURA LEAVES PAPEETE.— The Union Company advises that the R.M.S. Makura left Papeete on Saturday for San Francisco, en route from Wellington, via Auckland. The vessel is due at the Californian port to-day week.

PORT DARWIN AT LONDON.— News has been received by the C. and D. Line that the Port Darwin arrived at London on June 30 from Port Chalmers. The vessel left Port Chalmers on May 12.

PORT HARDY DUE SUNDAY. — Leaving Wellington to-morrow for Gisborne and Auckland, the Farmers’ Coop. Auctioneering Company advises that the C. and D. Line steamer Port Hardy will arrive here next Sunday to complete her loading, and is scheduled to sail finally from this port on July 13 for New York, Boston and London via Panama.

CUMBERLAND TO COMPLETE.— To complete loading the Federal steamer Cumberland is due at Wellington on Thursday from Wanganui. She sails on Saturday for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow, Manchester and Liverpool, via Panama. CHENISTON FROM MAKATEA.— No wireless advice has been received yet from the steamer Cheniston, which is expected on Thursday from Makatea Island. She has a full cargo of phosphates for discharge at Auckland and Lyttelton. Henderson and Macfarlane are the local agents. RUAHINE FROM LONDON. —The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Ruahine is scheduled to clear Southampton to-day with passengers, mail and cargo for New Zealand. The cargo will be unloaded at Auckland and Wellington. She is due at Auckland on August 10.

SOMERSET REPLACES HERtFORD. —The latest itinerary of the New Zealand Shipping Company states that the Somerset has replaced the Hertford on the West Coast of Great Britain loading ports, and she is to be despatched from Liverpool on July 23 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and Bluff. The vessel is due at Auckland on August 29. TAMAROA AT COLON. —En route from London and Southampton with passengers, mail and cargo for New Zealand, the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Tamaro® is reported to have reached Colon last Saturday. The cargo is for discharge at Wellington and Auckland. She is due at Wellington on July 23 and at Auckland a week later.

HUNTINGDON’S ITINERARY. —The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal steamer Huntingdon, now at Bluff completing her discarge of Liverpool cargo, and loading for her return voyage, leaves on Thursday for loading at Timaru, Lyttleton, Wellington and Auckland. She is expected to arrive at this port on July 21'and is scheduled to sail finally from Auckland on July 23 for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool, taking cargo also for Manchester, via Panama.

OIL FOR NEW ZEALAND.— Three oil-tankers are due to arrive at Auckland next week, the Admiralty tanker Nucula, the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Company’s Pleiodon, and the Vacuum Oil Company’s Pulpit Point. For Wellington, both the Otokfa and the O. a. Knudson are due there this month. The Nucula, which is en route from San Pedro, is due here about Sunday next, the Pleiodon from the same port is due here on July 14, and the Pulpit Point from San Francisco is due here the following day.

MAHENO FROM SYDNEY. The Union Company’s intercolonial steamer Maheno arrived at Auckland this morning from Sydney, and after pratique was granted berthed at the Queen’s Wharf to land her passengers, mails, and cargo. The vessel sailed from the New South Wales port shortly after noon last Friday, and experienced variable winds and moderate seas for the run across the Tasman Sea. The Maheno brought the following passengers :

The Xgatiawa sailed yesterday afternoon for Raglan, Kawhia and Port Waikato. She is due hack again at 0 a.m. on Thursday and will leave at 2 p.m. the same day for Hokianga. The Anchor Line steamer Ivaitoa is expected at Onehunga early to-morrow morning from Nelson and West Coast ports. She sails again the same evening for Ficton only. The Arapawa is to arrive at Onehunga from Westport with a cargo of coal. After discharging she will leave on Fridav for Wanganui.
