ABOLISHED MINISTRIES
TRANSPORT AND OVERSEA TRADE RETENTION REPORTED IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT’S DECISION (British Official Wireless .) Reed. 11.5 a.m. RUGBY, Monday. Since the Chancellor of the Ex-y chequer, Mr. Winston Churchill, announced in his Budget speech that as a measure of economy the Ministries of Transport and Overseas Trade as separate departments were to be abolished, and that the functions of the Mines Department were to be distributed, very strong representations have been made to the Government, particularly from commercial and industrial organisations, asking that the decision should be reconsidered. The “Evening Standard” understands that it has now been decided to retain the Ministry of Transport as a whole, but as the department of another Minister, to distribute the functions of the Mines Department between the Ministry of Labour, the Home Office, and the Board of Trade, and to continue the Department of Overseas Tra’de without any vital change.—A. and N.Z.
