A GOLD STAR FIREMAN
The coveted decoration of the New Zealand fire-lighter, the “Gold Star’.’ awarded for 25 years’ continuous service, has become the possession of Superintendent R. Ross, of the Taumarunui Fire Brigade. Superintendent Ross is the youngest fireman to receive the honour in New Zealand, and the first recipient in v the Taumarunui district. The Ross family holds a somewhat unique record, as the service of father and four brothers totals 109 years’ war against the fire fiend. Two other members of the Taumarunui Brigade have also great records: Deputy-Super-intendent G. Robinson, 18 years, and Foreman F. O’Connor, 17£ years.
