General Motors’ Work Special Service AT CANBERRA OPENING In accordance with their universal service policy. General Motors maintained three large service stations in the Federal territory of Australia over an eight days' period in connection with the Canberra celebrations. This service included all minor repairs and adjustment to General Motors’ cars, free of charge, and the scheme was fully appreciated not only by owners of General Motors’ products, but other car-owners, to whom the free service was extended when required. A special service truck for towing and heavy work was run during the busiest days throughout the capital, and rendered first aid to several cars which encountered trouble on the important opening day. This servicing scheme was something quite new in Australian motor history, and there is tangible evidence that the plan found much favour with motorowners, who experienced a sense of security during a period and under conditions otherwise uncertain from the driver's standpoint. A very interesting souvenir booklet has been issued by General Motors, featuring the history (supplemented pictorially) of Canberra. Copies may be had free of charge by application to advertising department, General Motors (Australia) Pty., Ltd., Carrington Road, Marrickville.
