J. McD., Grey Lynn.—(a) Re keeping to the left on crossings. The bylaw makes it quite clear that motorists must keep strictly to the left when crossing at intersections. You would be well advised to stick to this at all costs. (b) Your headlights can be tested at any good garage or electrical repairers. Correct focussing takes time, but is worth it. The other matters inquired about will be dealt with later. DIMMING HEADLIGHTS I have received many inquiries as to whether there is a by-law regarding dimming of headlights. This appears to be due to a statement by Mr. Justice Reed in the Supreme Court here recently, when he said: “The dimming of headlights on motor-cars at night is the most dangerous practice in the world.” There does not appear to be a by-law on the matter, although many think one is necessary. A meeting was held in Wellington recently, under the auspices of the New Zealand Motor Traders’ Association, of petrol vendors. Everybody reselling petrol to the public, whether grocers, merchants, coal merchants or garage proprietors, were present and did their best to help solve the difficulties of the distribution of petrol. on an equitable basis to the satisfaction of all concerned.
