Oxford and Qambridge at Cricket.— Cambridge made 178 in its first innings, and Oxford has lost 140 wickets for eight. The match marks the centnary of university cricket. —British Official Wireless.
New Graduates. —Arrangements ore in hand to make the annual social and conversazione of the Court of Convocation of Auckland University College a welcome to new graduates. The tentative date is July 18.
Petty .Theft. —Thomas .McGregor, alias Daniel O’Connor, with with a past history for petty thieving, received 14 days’ imprisonment at the Huntly Police Court to-day for stealing a knife and steel from the counter of Mrs. Williams’s shop.
Many Radio; Enthusiasts. —During the year ended June 30, the number of wireless licences in the Conjman\yealth was .increased by 97,079, making the total 215,139. This works out at one license to every 30 people. Victoria heads the list with 118,965 licences. —A. and N.Z. Butchers’ Award. —On the application of the Butchers’ Union F. Day, E. Sheffer, Symojids Street, and W. Dyer, Glenfield, were joined as parties to the butchers’ award. The joinder of JMelda Bennett, a small-goods shopkeeper, was held up pending a report from an inspector of awards. Mr. W. Sill appeared for the Butchers’ Union. Dai-ry Produce Markets. —Mr. H. C. Cameron, formerly New Zealand produce commissioner in London, has embarked at London on the Ruahine. He hopes to induce the New Zealand Dairy directors to bring their produce more
directly in touch with the retailers.— A. and N.Z.
Knocked Down by Cycle. —Through being knocked down by a motor-cycle at the corner of Rhodes Street and Papanui Road on Saturday, Mr. J. Hawthorne, aged 83, of Merivale, was taken to the Christchurch Hospital suffering from shock apd injuries. The injured man’s condition is perious, and lie is still unconscious.
Drunk on a Car. —For driving a motorcar in a dangerous manner, Gilbert Karton, of Castlecliff, was fined £25 in the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court. The case arose out of a collision with a tramcar at Ingestre Street. It was stated that accused zig-zagged about and then hit the tram. After the accident broken beer bottles were found in the car and defendant smelt strongly of liquor.
