DISASTER IN CHINA

200 KILLED OR INJURED EXPLOSION ON JUNK BRITISH BOAT ATTACKED By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 9.25 a.m. SHANGHAI, Thurs. Two hundred Chinese men, women and children were killed or injured in the vicinity of Nanking, when a native junk carrying explosives blew up through the crew’s carelessness. The junk was moored to a railway wharf and the explosion wrecked dozens of buildings adjoining. Three Chinese passengers on a British river boat proceeding from Shanghai to Hankow were wounded when the vessel was attacked by soldiers on the river bank. A protest lodged with General Chiang Kai-Shek elicited the reply that he was not responsible for the troops affiliated with the Hankow Government. The attack is the first for several weeks. —Sun.
