YOUNG MAN GAOLED “It is unfortunate for you that you should be brought up at a time when there is so much of this crime about,” said his Honour, Mr. Justice Reed at the Supreme Court this morning in sentencing William Reece Campbell on a charge of breaking and entering and theft. For the prisoner, Mr. W. A. Beattie said that he was only 22 years of age and had never been in trouble before. Prisoner had lately been involved ir. a motor accident and had been out of work for some time, as a result of which he had no money to meet his medical expenses. The crime was not premeditated, said counsel. Prisoner found himself in an alleyway in Karangahape Road, and leaning against a door found it to be unlocked. He then entered and took two suits. His Honour said that in his statement to the police prisoner admitted b-eaking open the door. “With so much crime of this description about," said his Honour, “the public must be protected." Prisoner was ordered to be detained for reformative treatment for 12 months. _______________
