LATITUDE OF THE EQUATOR NEW YORK, Saturday. The Washington correspondent of the New York “Times” says a flight

around the world at the equator is now contemplated. It may have the serious attention of the American naval authorities when Commander Bvrd returns to Europe. This fact was made known to-day by the Secretary of the Navy. air. Curtis Wilbur. He said he would like to see a man fly around the world in the latitude of the equator. A message from Rapid City says the President, Mr. Coolidge, who is spending a vacation here, stated that, such progress has been made in transoceanic flights that he believes the time has come for international cooperation in mapping out oceanic courses . These should be lighted and protected by radio communication. There should also be a reasonable number of sea landing places. Mr. Coolidge said Government experts were already considering the subject, and efforts would be made to interest American capitalists to invest in such undertakings. Kent, is raising a fund of 10,000 for a proposed flight from San Francisco to Honolulu and on to Australia. The possibilities of the plan are being examined.
