BUSINESS FOR SESSION The Arbitration Court began its sittings to-day. His Honour Mr. Justice Frazer presiding. The morning was devoted to the filing of dates and a preliminary revision of the list of cases set down. The court intimated its intention to hear next Tuesday an application to b« made by Sir W. G. Armstrong Whit worth and Co., Ltd., relating to its agreement with the New Zealand Workers’ Union. The point has been raised in connection with the division among the workers at Arapuni whether the company can Recognise any other body of workers than the New Zealand Workers’ Union. Ruston and Sons.— Thursday, July 7, 2.15 p.m. Stansbury v. Waihi Gold Mining Co. —Wednesday, July 13, 10 a.m. Sheddon v. Glen Afton Colliery Wednesday, July 13, 2.15 p.m. The case of Sheddon v. Glen Afton Collieries, Ltd., will be continued ai the Hamilton sitting of the court on July 14, at 2.15 p.m. Mr. Justice Frazer intimated that awards would be made in terms of recommendations from conciliation councils in the Auckland City Female Bookbinders’ dispute, the Dominion Coach workers’ and Wheelwrights’ dispute, and the Auckland Builders’ Labourers’ (quarry and scoria pit section) dispute. Hearing of alleged breaches of the Bakers’ award by Walter Buchanan, Ltd., and Geo. Kent and Sons, Ltd., and an application for an interpretation of the bakers’ award were set down for Saturday morning, July 9. An application for an interpretation of the Furniture Trades’ award was set down for to-morrow. PARTIES AND APPRENTICES An order was made to add parties to the South Auckland Butchers’ award and an application to add parties to the Auckland Butchers’ award was set down for hearing to-morrow. Orders were made adding parties to the Painters’ and Decorators’ award and to the Drivers’ award. In the latter case the addition of Rotorua Borough Council was not accepted, as the council's drivers were covered by an agreement securing them the wages provided in the awards made at any time. The appeal of an apprentice, W. C. Crawford, against his dismissal was withdrawn. The appeal of F. Cole against the decision of an apprenticeship committee and applications for amendments of apprenticeship orders in electrical trades and the furniture trades were set down for Friday, July 8. An application of James Paris Copper, stationer, for exemption from the closing hours of the Retail Shop Assistants’ award was granted and the exemption of W. Dyer and Imelda Bennett from the Buthchers’ award were set down for hearing to-morrow.
