WINS FOR THAMES AND LEE By Cable.—Press Association. — Coi>yrigki LONDON, Saturday. At the Henley regatta to-day in the race for the drand Challenge Cop Thames beat Leander by threequarters of a length in 7min. 16sec. In the Diamond Sculls Lee (Worcester College) beat Wright (Canada) by one length in 9rnin. 6sec. Wright seemed to be winning easily 100yds. from the post, but suddenly got into difficulties. He afterwards explained that he caught the blade of one of his sculls in a rope attached to the toomi —A. and N.Z. LUCKY WIN AT BOXING HEAVY-WEIGHT CONTEST By Cable. — Press Association. — Copj/riffM SYDNEY, Sunday. At the Sydney Stadium last evening Tiger Payne knocked out George Thompson in the eighth round for the heavy-weight championship of Australia. Payne was lucky to win, as in the seventh round he was almost knocked out. However, in the following round he hit wildly and managed to place a right to Thompson’s jaw which dropped him. This was the beginning of the and Thompson was badly punished be* fore he took the final count. —A. and N.Z. one. Misses Hyde, Stevens and Raines for East secured one goal each.
