The Hon. G. J. Oarland, M.L.C., arived in Auckland for the week-end this morning. The Hon. E- W. Alison, M.L.C., returned to Auckland this morning from Wellington by the Limited. The Hon. Sir E. Buck, Director of Maori Hygiene, received a farewell presentation from the medical officers and staff of the Auckland district health office this morning. Dr. E. L. Marchant arrived in Auckland from Wellington by the Limited this morning. Mr. William Wallace, chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, returned to Auckland this morning from Wellington. Mr. W. R Tuck was elected last evening chairman of the Auckland branch of the Institute of Pacific Relations. Mr. W. Bishop, of the Railway Head Office. Wellington, went South last evening by the Limited. The general manager of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Mr. H. H. Sterling, is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. J. B- Mac Ewan, of Wellington, who is travelling to Vancouver by the Aorangi on Tuesday, will arrive in Auckland to-morrow. Mr. W. A. Wellings and Mr. A. Urquhart, of the Railway Department, Head Office, Wellington, have been appointed first assistant and second assistant respectively to the Staff Superintendent. Mr. C. M. Croft, Canadian Trade Commissioner, who leaves on a business trip to Canada on Tuesday, was wished bon voyage by members of the Canadian Club last night. Mr. A. M. Ducroz, of Dalgety and Company, Ltd., London, who has been conferring with the company’s New Zealand managers, will leave for London by the Aorangi from Auckland on Tuesday. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Ducroz. It was announced at the meeting of the Auckland branch of the Institute of Pacific Relations last evening that the Rev. W. Mawson would accompany the delegation to the conference to be held in Honolulu this month. Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M. for the Palmerston North district, who underwent a minor operation on Tuesday, was compelled to re-enter hospital on Thursday evening to undergo a further operation of a major nature. Some time will elapse before he returns to duty and during his absence Mr, R. M. Watson, Main Trunk travelling’magistrate, will temporarily preside at the local sittings of the court.
