FORD COMPANY’S SHIPS.— The United States Shipping Board has granted permission to the Ford Motor Company to convert three Lake-type steamers, recently purchased by it for scrapping purposes, into barges, on payment of 10,000 dollars per vessel. The steamers cost 8,530 dollars each, and will take about 125,000 dollars to convert. It is proposed to strip the hulls and fit them with donkey boilers and donkey engines. They will have no propelling power, and will be used or handing bulk materials.
