PADEREWSKI SEASON

TO-NIGHT’S RECITAL To the greater majority at the Town Hall this evening the big attraction at the Paderewski recital will be Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” in C Sharp Minor, which has been aptly described as one of the most imaginative and poetical things in music. To-night will see the second Auckland recital of this world-famous pianist, for which a brilliant programme of musical gems from the great masters will be submitted. The Bach-Liszt “Fantasia and Fugue” in G Minor, Schubert’s brilliant “Impromptu” in E Flat, and the same composer’s beautiful pathetic “Impromptu” in A Flat (Op. 142), will be given, and these varying compositions will be followed by Liszt’s arrangement of two of Schubert’s songs, serenade, “Hark, Hark, the Lark,” and “Erl-King.” Again Paderewski will play several of Chopin’s compositions—- “ Ballade in G Minor” (No. 1, Op. 23), with its impressive dramatic finale; two Etudes, No. 10 in A Flat, and No. 5 in G Flat, which serve the technical purpose of teaching the different ways of phrasing the same figure. The second of the two is the well-known study on “black notes.” This will be followed by the same composer's “Valse Brilliante.” Paderewski will also play his appealing “Chant du Voyageur” in B Major; Ernest Scheling’s impressive “Nocture a Raguse” will follow. The programme will conclude with Liszt’s glorious “Rhapsodie Hongroise in A Minor.” Box plan arrangements are advertised.
