Markets and Money

A Review for Business Men

ON THE ’CHANGE MARKET DULL DEMAND FOR BONDS A dull tone prevails* on the ’change for most classes of securities. Little business is recorded and many shares have a weakening tendency. The feature of to-«day’s business was the strengthening of Farmers’ Fertilisers from late buyers quotations of £3 13s to see a sale after this morning’s call at £4. Mining is particularly dull, with Alburnias, Kawaraus, Moanataiaris, and Lucky Shot weajk and depressed on a falling market. Government and local body bonds and debentures remain in good tone, with a firm demand at late quotations. SALES REGISTERED At yesterday afternoon’s call: On the ’Change—Alburnia, 4s; Moanataiari (con.), 2s 6d. Reported—Lucky Shot (con.). Is lid; N.Z. Guarantee Corporation (ord.), 8s lid. This morning’s business: Reported—- " Wellington Woollen (pref.), £6 8s 6d; N.Z. Inscribed stock, 1938, 4i p.c., £96 17s 6d; N.Z. Farmers’ Fert., £4. TO-DAY’S QUOTATIONS Closing quotations at this morning’s call’ were:

PAPATOETOE BUILDING The return of building permits for the month of June, issued by the Papatoetoe Town Board, show a substantial increase on the same month of last year. For comparison the figures of 1926 are shown in parentheses. Number of permits issued for dwejlings, 6 (6); value, £6,057 (£4,102); other dwellings, 6 (3), of £1,390 15s (£75); total permits, 12 (9); value, £7,447 15s (£4,177). For the first quarter of the financial year the total permits for iwellings, etc., numbered 27, totalling in value £15,342 15s, against 24 permits, value £12,292, for the first quarter of 1926. In the face of depression and the heavy slump overhanging the Dominion. it is no small consolation to see building increasing at the rate of 25 per cent.

AFTER THE JAZZ TAKE “BAXTER’S” How easy it is to catch a chill after coming out from a warm ballroom. The cold air strikes you when you are heated and, alas, you soon become aware of a tickling in the throat and a tightness in the chest. As a precaution take a dose of Baxter’s Lung Preserver as soon as you get home. A sure remedy for ail coughs and colds. It will ward off an attack, and its unique tonic properties will help to build you up. Baxter’s Lung Preserver is the best remedy for family use, and it always pays to keep a bottle in the home. Rich, soothing and pleasant to take, it is welcomed by all. You can obtain a generous-sized bottle from any chemist or store for 2s 6d. The family size at 4s 6d is more economical. —11.-

THE ROYAL PARTY AND Q-TOL Q-TOL was much in evidence at the various New Zealand fishing and tourist camps, and it was being used by practically all the members of the Royal party. By special request, supplies were placed aboard H.M.S. Renown. Q-TOL is appreciated in the very highest circles on account of its intrinsic value as an invigorating skin tonic and emoUie*'*.- 4
