Canada Celebrates Diamond Jubilee

From Halifax to Vancouver the whole of Canada is preparing for the opening to-morrow of the diamond jubilee of the Confederation of Canada and her birth as a dominion. The event will be celebrated even in the Indian and Eskimo settlements in the Far North. The celebrations will begin at noon with the reading of a message from King George to the Canadian people from a dais in front of Parliament Buildings. Captain C. Lindbergh, the hero of the Atlantic flight, is expected to fly here on Saturday, and he will receive a gold jubilee medal similar to that to be presented to the King and the Prince of Wales. Viscount Willingdon, the GovernorGeneral, and representatives in America of the various Dominions, have arrived here. They will be guests of honour, with foreign diplomats, during the celebrations. —A and N.Z. FUNCTION IN AUCKLAND DOMINION’S JUBILEE To celebrate the diamond jubilee of the Dominion about forty members of the Canadian Club met last night. The club’s president, Major J. G. Wayne, was in the chair and among

the guests were Mr. C. M. Croft, Canadian Trade Commissioner: Mr. Paul Sykes, and Dr. E. X. Drier. The story of the confederation of the States of Canada and how the difficulties experienced in so vast and varied a country were overcome was related by Air. Croft • Above all we have a Dominion which is loyal, and which has proved her loyalty to the Crown in many ways, and above all by the attitude adopted in 1914. when the Empire’s call went forth for me.” Mr. Croft concluded. •‘To-day the new Victory Tower in Ottawa has been officially opened and the peal of the 53 belsl in the carillon is in commemoration of the 56,000 Canadians who gave their lives for the cause of liberty.”
