LOSE IN AMERICA HALF-BLIND PUTTING MARVEL Latest advices to hand are to the effect that T. Armour, former Scottish amateur champion, won the United States open golf championship. Armour is half blind as a result of injury during the war. He is an American professional now. He sank a 30-putt to tie with Harry Cooper, aged 22, a British-born Canadian. In the play-off the pair were followed by 10,000 spectators. Bobbie Jones, holder of the American and British titles, was a spectator for the first time in his phenomenal career. Armour started his win at the fifteenth in the play-off with a 50-foot putt, and gained two strokes at the next, winning with 76 to 79. No details are yet available, but it is reported that the all-American professional team defeated the visiting British professional team for the Ryder Cup.
