NEW ZEALAND FAIR

TOWN HALL DISPLAY VARIETY AND ENTERTAINMENT TO-MORROW’S BIG EFFORT Although primarily an industrial fair, the display of New Zealand-made goods which opens at the Town Hall to-morrow afternoon will bear none of the marks of the usual show. Attractiveness and originality will be the outstanding features of this big demonstration. Entering the Town Hall to-morrow, visitors will find confronting them a miniature Tongariro National Park. Built across the hall, a Maori pataka, or storehouse, will lend additional colour to the native effects, and shrubs, trees, and fernery, profusely distributed around the hall, will also add to the national scheme. A very appropriate prologue will be staged by parties of Maori "warriors” and maidens, who, in poi songs and hakas, will recount the story of the early New Zealanders. Specimens of Maori workmanship will also be on view, demonstrating the industrial life of the native race. MY LADY'S DRESS Mannequin parades never fail to attract keen attention and it should indeed be difficult for late-comers to get within close distance of the long dais on which the latest New Zealand creations will be displayed by specially selected girls. To provide an adequate setting for my lady’s dress, no efforts have been spared, and something decidedly original will be presented, not only in the design and colouring of texture, but also in the method of display. In a section of the hall, which will be reserved for ladies only, a charming boudoir has been fitted up, and there will be shown classic examples of underwear and hosiery, etc. Variety is the objective of the promoters, and to carry this out still further the New Zealand Preference League has made arrangements for displays to be carried out by 12 welltrained ballets, under the direction of Mdlle. Valeska. Each girl will bear an advertisement for a New Zealand - made article, and the result should be both artistic and effective. Bands and orchestra will also be in attendance to add to the gaiety of the scene. TO HELP UNEMPLOYMENT In conjunction with the Town Hall activities, the league has also arranged for an All New Zealand display in Queen Street. Their efforts in this direction have met with very encouraging success, and another varied exhibition should result from the individual efforts of shopkeepers in Queen Street, over 80 per cent of whom have promised tp participate. Providing the support qf the citizens is forthcoming, and all they are asked to do is to buy a shilling membership badge and purchase one New Zealand-made article during the week. New Zealand industries, and incidentally the unemployment question, will receive great assistance. It is a campaign that should commend itself to all.
