The Conference Was “Satisfactory”
PARLEY ON ARAPUNI AUCKLAND POWER BOARD “ Satisfactory’” was the description given by the chairman of the Auckland Electric-Power Board yesterday of the recent conference on the Arapuni delay. The Government had definitely promised to supply current to meet any shortage. The arrangement, said the chairman, would save the board a capital expenditure of £60,000. The conference and the Government commitments were fully discussed by the board in committee. There were present at the meeting, Messrs W. J. Holdsworth (chairman), M. J. Bennett, S. I. Crookes, J. Pai-k, J. Dempsey, F. M. Waters, J. Roe, H. T. Goldie, E. H. Potter, R. G. Clark, T. Bloodworth and S. J. Harbutt. A letter from J. B. Were and Sons. Melbourne, advised that the statement that a loan of £150,000 had been raised in Australia was incorrect. The board considered the subject of supplies of slack coal. An agreement was offered by the colliery companies controlling supplies of slack offering dumped coal on a contract for three years. The general manager was instructed to confer with the companies and report to the board again.
