WORDING A MOTION
CHAIRMAN’S RESOURCE (Special to THE SVN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. evening’s assembly of delegates of the New Zealand Hockey Association Council was hard put to it to determine the exact wording of a certain motion proposed by Mr. Holland. Wanganui, and dealing with the allocation of the profits from the third test match with the Indian Army team. Some provinces had to be included and most to be excluded from its benefits. The problem became thoroughly perplexing, and when speaker after speaker had added his comments, Mr. Holland was unable to recognise his original motion, which was referred to Mr. Goodman, chairman, “because of his judicial knowledge.” Deep silence while everybody thought. Then, “Ah,” sighed Mr. Goodman. “I have it. The allocation of the remaining balance to be decided as hereinafter provided.” Sighs of admiration.
Mr. Holland: That’s grand. Now what about a “whereas” to finsh the thing off properly?
