“FREEDOM” IN RUSSIA

The Supreme Council of the National Economy, according to the Moscow “Pravda,” has authorised in a new decree severer penalties for strikes and strikers in Russia. Heretofore strikes have been forbidden, but the decree failed to provide strict measures of punishment. The revised decree classifies strikes with counter-revolutionary activities which permits the Government to impose the death penalty. The councils order states that the strike as an economic weapon in the hands of the workers imperils the Government and causes economic losses without bettering the condition of the workers; therefore Government employees and workers in State subsidised institutions are not allowed to strike.
