Liquor Shipped as “Glassware”
JIG NEW YmK SEIZURE CARGO WORTH £37,000 By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright NEW YORK, Tuesday. A raid was carried out by prohibition agents on two Red Star liners, the Arabic and Delilian, in dock at New Y'ork. They seized liquor valued at £37,000 which had been shipped as “glassware.” The liquor included sora« prime vintages. A violation of the Volstead Act Is not alleged, but a carter who drove up to the dock to unload the “glassware” was arrested for an alleged violation of the tariff laws. Officials say a sweeping investigation will be made in order to identify the consignor and the consignees. It is believed the liquor was shipped from Antwerp in fictitious names. In view of the international comity involved no further steps will be taken until a thorough investigation has been made. —A. and N.Z.
