BISHOP OF LONDON SEVERELY CRITICISED

DISLOYALISTS IN DIOCESE HOME SECRETARY SPEAKS OUT By Cable. —Press Association. —Copyright LONDON, Tuesday. A violent attack upon the Bishop of London, Dr. A. F. Winnington Ingram, was made by the Home Secretary, Sir William Joynson-Hicks, in a speech at a meeting of the National Church League. Sir William accused the bishop of having filled the diocese of London with men whose doctrines were disloyal. (Cries of: “Throw him out of the Church; that is the best thing to do with him.”) Sir William: No, no. I don’t want hard words against His Lordship, but I do want the bishops to realise that we have our rights as they have theirs. “Churchmen had been asked to accept the New Prayer Book as a compromise for the sake of peace, but the bishops should give an assurance that the present revision is final. So far no such assurance has been forthcoming. Let the bishop say the Reformation was the work of God in the Church and we will help them to keep the peace.”-w-A. and N.Z.
