SOCCER DISPUTE IN CANTERBURY
SUNNYSIDE WITHDRAWS As the result of a disagreement with the Canterbury Football Association, the Sunnyside Club has withdrawn from all competitions and will probably adopt another code. Sunnyside has always been a prominent Soccer club and last year won the South Island Championship in the Chatham Cup. It then met North Shire in the final at Wellington and won the trophy. The club is drawn from the staff of the Sunnyside Mental Hospital, and the authorities insist that all games must be played on the hospital ground for the benefit of the patients. The Canterbury Football Association considered this gave the Hospital team an undue advantage in the local competitions, and decided that preferential treatment would* not be given this season. Following this resolution the club has retired from all engagements.
