TO-DAY’S RACING

WORK AT ELLERSLIE INTERESTING SCHOOLING TASKS Owing: to The heavy nature of the ground a-t Ellerslie this morning the sand and tan tracks were the only ones available for work, and though they were largely availed of no fast times were registered. Over the Sticks An interesting piece of jumping was accomplished at Ellerslie this morning, when Day Bell (Stanaway), Passiri* Through (Garrett) and Llewellyn (Chaplin) were associated over a round of the schooling hurdles, finishing as named. Each of the trio cleared the obstacles in polished fashion, though Day Bell rapped the last. Requires Winding Clockwork (Olive) gave a poor display of jumping when accompanied by Pekapai (Hastings) in a bout over two of the pony hurdles. Clockwork, who was evidently not wound up. knocked both battens over: indeed, he failed to rise more than a couple of feet, and will have to improve to warrant his entry into the ranks of jumpers. Pekapai cleared the obstacles well. A* Repeat Performance After clearing two pony hurdles with Clockwork, Pekapai (Hastings), gave Mahgoloire (Olive) a spin over two of the schooling hurdles, both jumping well. Pekapai was then joined by Rahepoto (Stanaway), who blundered badly in a round of four hurdles, upsetting three and very nearly falling. Rahepoto’s display was unsatisfactory, but the manner in which he cleared the third fence suggested that he should improve with experience. Works After Lunch Storm Fiend, who works as a rule in the afternQon, has been getting through his tasks in a nice manner, and later in the season should be in good condition. Youngsters Improving On the two-year-old track The Dansant was noticed moving briskly, and this youngster appears to improve with each gallop. Another juvenile rapidly striking form is Carinthia, who runs along freely when sent over a distance. SOUTHLAND MEETING Press Association INVERCARGILL, To-day. He was given easy exercise at Randwick. where, according to the “Telegraph,” he walked particularly short, and his action did not impress. The writer adds: He does not appear to have an ounce of flesh to spare, so it will be interesting to see how he shapes in training the next few days. —A. and N.Z.
