BOXES AND CRATES
DAIRY INDUSTRY DEMANDS FOREIGN COMPETITION (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAWERA, To-day. At a meeting of the Federation of Taranaki Co-operative Dairy Factories, the question of timber for cheese crates and butter boxes was discussed. It was pointed out that owing to excessive costs it was impossible to compete against foreign importations, freight on the railways alone being double what it was a few years ago. It was mentioned that at a recent conference with the Hon. A. D. McLeod, the Minister expressed the opinion that anything which would benefit the industry in the manufacture of boxes and crates should be carried out. Another conference will shortly be held, when it is confidently believed a substantial reduction will be announced.
