A NARROW ESCAPE
TRAM AND CAR COLLIDE MOTOR BADLY SMASHED Two men had a narrow escape yes terday afternoon when the motor-car that they were in collided with a tram. Mr. S. E. Chappell, driver of the car, a five-seater Oakland, was turning from Mount Eden Road into Gqrdon Road, travelling away from the city. It Is stated that his attention was diverted for a moment by the sound of a horn behind him, and he was quite taken by surprise when a tram crashed into his car, smashing it badly. His brother had his hand cut by broken glass, but no one else was injured. The driver said afterwards that the rain caused the visibility to be bad. The tram was only slightly damaged, the front steps being broken aud the headlight shattered.
