BOROUGH OF AVONDALE
RECORD BUILDING YEAR The Avondale Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. W. J. Tait presiding. A request from the Auckland Hospital Board for the council to subscribe to the Hospital Wireless Fund was deferred to a subsequent - meeting. Mr. O. A. Guttormsen, of Blockhouse Bay, was granted permission to show motion pictures on Good Friday night. It was decided to ask the New Lynn Borough Council to convene a meeting of the various bodies interested in the Whau Bridge scheme with .a view to unanimity in negotiating with the Main Highways Board in the matter of the board’s subsidy. The engineer’s report, which was adopted, stated that the contract for the construction of the main sewerage extention of No. 2 area, has been signed by Messrs. Gosse and Mullan. Several roads in the district are in urgent need of repair, and the expense will be fairly considerable. For this purpose £IOO was allotted to the engineer for temporary patching of the worst portions of Manukau, Taylor, and Blake Streets. During the year ended March 31 the building operations in the borough have shown a marked increase as compared with the previous year. Last year constitutes a record for Avondale.
