N.Z. WHEAT CROP
INCREASE IN FLOUR DUTY STATEMENT BY MR. HAWKEN rress Association. ASHBURTON, Tuesday. The Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. O. J. Hawken, arrived here to-day at the invitation \of the mid-Canterbury executive of the Farmers’ Union and Agricultural and Pastoral Association, to inspect the wheat-growing areas of the county. He addressed a large meeting of farmers on the wheat question, his speech being much on the lines of the Prime Minister’s recent statements at Timaru and Christchurch. Mr. Hawken added that notice of the intention to increase the duty on flour would be given to Australia within a day or two.
