PERSONAL. —Captain G. M. Ruxton has joined the Kaiapoi vice Captain W. D. H. Gardner. Captain T. Donovan has relieved Captain B. Burk as master of the Arapawa. Captain H. Burgess has joined the Southern Cross as master, and Messrs. J. S. Grey and D. W. Palmer as chief officer and chief engineer respectively. FROM NORFOLK ISLAND.— With passengers, mails and cargo the Government steamer Hinemoa is due at Auckland to-morrow morning from Norfolk Island, and sails at 10 p.m. to-morrow for Niue Island. Messrs. Spedding, Ltd., are the agents. INDIANOLA DELAYED.—-Accord-ing to a wireless message received by Spedding, Ltd., the steamer Indianola has been delayed by heavy weather and now expects to arrive at Auckland mid-day on Saturday from Port Arthur, Texas. MARGERT W. DUE. Messrs. Watkin and Wallis have been advised by cable that the Diesel ship Margert W. has been purchased by Captain A F. Watchlin and is now at Newcastle loading for Kopu. She is expected in New Zealand about the middle of this month. SOUTHERN CROSS DELAYED.— Owing to the boisterous weather conditions which prevailed this morning, the Melanesian Mission steamer, Southern Cross, was unable to leave port. If weather permits she will sail at 10 a.m. to-morrow.

| LOUIS THERIAULT WAITING.— The auxiliary barquentine Louis Theriault, which put in to Auckland on Monday, is waiting- a favourable opportunity to leave port. She replenished her fuel supply yesterday and will leave for Gisborne to-morrow if the weather permits. CALCUTTA TRADE.— CabIe, advice received by the Union Company states that the Federal Steamer Sussex left Calcutta last Sunday morning for ‘ Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. En route she will call at • Rangoon, Penang, Samarang, Soura- ; baya and Townsville .and is expected : here early next month. 1 LEAVES NEW YORK. The steamer Australind is reported to have cleared New York on Sunday with case oil and general cargo for discharge at • Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dun- . edin and Wanganui. The vessel is . running under the auspices of the A. 4 and A. Line, and the New Zealand Shipping Company are the local j agents. RARANGA FROM HOME No wireless advice has yet been received . from the Shaw, Saviil and Albion l steamer Raranga, which is scheduled to reach Auckland from London on Friday. Afterwards she will go to Port Chalmers, • Bluff and Nelson to complete discharge. 5 A LONG TOW. —The launch Mavis ' sets out this morning, towed by the Melanesian Mission steamer Southern Cross, for a journey of 1,970 miles to the Solomon Islands. The Mavis, t which for some time was engaged in night ferry traffic, has been bought by the Bishop of Melanesia, Dr. Steward, and will be used to convey him to the > various mission stations in the SouthWest Pacific. 1 PORT DENISON REPORTS.— The • Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company has received a wireless mes- : sage from the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Denison, 1 stating that she will now arrive from Liverpool on Saturday. The vessel is bringing general merchandise from West of Great Britain ports for dis- ' charge at Auckland, Wellington, . Lyttelton and Dunedin. ROYAL MAIL STEAMERS. —The Union Company advise the following movements or their Royal Mail steamers: The Aorangi leaves Vancouver today for Auckland, via Honolulu and Suva. She is announced to leave here on Tuesday, April 26 for Sydney. The Niagara leaves Sydney tomorrow for Auckland, and is due to arrive here on Monday. She sails at 11 a.m. on Tuesday next for Vancouver via Suva, Honolulu, and Victoria. CARGO FROM LONDON. —The Commonwealth and Dominion Line - steamer Port Hardy is scheduled to 5 leave London to-day with general merchandise for discharge at Auckland, - Port Chalmers and New Plymouth. L She is due at Auckland about May 18. ! She is to be followed from London by the motor-ship Port Dunedin, which is to sail on May 18 for Suva, Wellington, Auckland and Napier. The local agents of the Shaw-Saviil Line have received advice that the Mamari is to be despatched from London on April 27 with cargo for discharge at Auckland, Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington. She is due at this port on June 4. NOTICE TO SHIPMASTERS.— Shipmasters are hereby notified that on and after Monday, April 4, 1927, a temporary passing place 45ft in width between the- fender piles will be provided at Kopu Bridge, Waihou River, pending construction of the permanent swing span. From sunrise to sunset the passing place will be marked by a triangular, shape on a standard on each side. From sunset to sunrise the downstream entrance will be indicated by a red light on the eastern side and a green light on the western side; the upstream entrance will be indicated by a green light on the eastern side and a red light on the western side. For lining purposes the green lights will be placed 2ft higher than the red lights and the edge of the fender piles will be marked in duplicate lights. This notice supersedes Notice to Mariners No. 62 of 1926, and shipmasters must comply with the above notice as from April 4. EASTER RUNNING.— The Union Company advise the following Easter running: The Wainui will leave Auckland on Tuesday next for Tokomaru Bay and Gisborne. She will not proceed to Napier next week, but will leave Gisborne on Thursday, 14th inst., for Auckland. The Marama leaves Sydney on Friday next and is due to arrive at Auckland on Tuesday next. She will leave Auckland for Sydney on Thursday, 14th inst., instead of Friday, schedule date. The Maunganui leaves Wellington for Sydney on Thursday, 14th inst., instead of Friday, usual date. The Tamahine leaves Wellington for Picton at 6 p.m. on Thursday, 14th inst. The Rarawa leaves Onehunga on Wednesday, 13th, instead of Thursday, and leaves New Plymouth on Thursday, 14th, for Onehunga. Her sailing from Onehunga has also been postponed from Monday, Easter Monday, until Tuesday, April 19. CANADIAN CHALLENGER ARRIVES. —Said to be the smartest vessel in the service, the Canadian Government line steamer, Canadian Challenger, arrived in Auckland this morning from Halifax, after a good passage. Leaving the Canadian port on February 26, the vessel came via Panama direct to Auckland. After clearing Balboa she had to return to port to land a sailor who was taken seriously ill. The Challenger will unload a cargo of motor-cars in Auckland, and then proceed south to complete her discharge. Captain O. Williams is in command, and has associated with 'him the following officers: First, Mr. Fuller; second, Mr. Clark; third, Mr. Allen; chief engineer, Mr. J. Davies; second, Mr. D. Barkley; third, Mr. Drinkwater; fourth, Mr. McKinnon; wireless operator, Mr. G. Cutten. The Canadion Challenger will sail from here towards the end of the week for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, and will call again at Auckland on the return voyage to load for New York, Boston, and Montreal.
