“THE HILL”

A MANUREWA RESIDENCE Mid the surroundings of beautiful native bush at ISianurewa on the hill that gives one a truly delightful panorama of the city of Auckland there is to be found the residence of Mr David L. Nathan. Unlike the usual style of

home, “The Hill” stands alone from an architectural point of view. Essentially old English in style, the house, as represented here, is finished inside in Tudor style. The building, while being a lavish structure, is wholly atractive and built with minute care to detuil and effect. The photograph was taken from the sun garden and shows that portion of the house which overlooks Auckland. The interior of the house is a revelation in antique furnishing and lay out. The fecond photograph represents a corner of the drawing-room and gives an excellent idea of the furnishings which are carried out in the style of Louis

XVI. As indicating the varied nature of the furnishings it may be stated that the dining-room is distinctly attractive with its Old English table and Portuguese chairs. The remainder of the rooms have been designed with the sole idea of providing comfort and space, and all are furnished with antiques as rare as they are priceless. The grounds have been laid out with exceptional care and with an eye to beauty. About 100 acres of ground surrounds the house, and in every respect is in excellent order. A Maori whare set mid a thick growth of tropical ferns is a feature of the garden. It is a truly delightful home set in delightful surroundings. The architect was Mr. Daniel B. Patterson, of Shortland Street.
