LUCK FOR SOMEONE

TRIP TO CALIFORNIA | “MISS NEW ZEALAND 1927” FILM COMPETITION The “Miss New Zealand 1927” competition now being conducted throughout the Dominion by the Fuller-Hav-ward and J. C. Williamson Theatres in conjunction with the Press is open to every New Zealand girl over the age of 16 years and unmarried. Beauty of form and face is necessary to a certain degree, but other qualities will be taken into consideration, for “Miss New Zealand 1927” is .o be truly representative of the girlhood of the nation The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios at Culver City in the United States are offering the winner of the contest a unique opportunity, providing she possesses the necessary qualifications. What they look for in a successful screen type is something beyond mere good looks. HESITATION IS UNAVAILING Many a clever girl may hesitate to enter the competition because she thinks there are so many others, perhaps strictly more beautiful than herself, and she would stand little chance of winning. “I haven’t got a chance." she will say when urged by her friends to compete. But you never know your luck! You may be just the type that will screen well, in addition to which you may be specially well fitted from the standpoint of education, training and latent dramatic ability Miss New Zealand 1927” is going to be someone who is more than merely a picture postcard. Health, physique, character, personality and mental alertness are all going to count in the final decision. VALUE OF THE CONTEST Those who are ever ready to decry anything in the nature of beauty competitions should pause and think hard. They set a standard of health and good training, for beauty is not usually found in undesirable surroundings, and the country that sets the attainment of beauty among its ideals must perforce advocate good moral training and insist upon the study of hygienic laws. The Greeks cultivated beauty and held contests in which physical and mental perfection were the chief objects, and the impress of this perfection has persisted throughout long ages, remaining with us to-day a source of inspiration in the wondrous relics of sculpture and architecture'that were inspired by their worship of the beautiful. What is there more wonderful than a beautiful mind in a beautiful body? A person so gifted is a living example, toward whose perfection we would all strive. “MISS NEW ZEALAND’S” CHANCE In addition to the honour of being “Miss New Zealand 1927” the winner of the competition w 7 ill be given a trip to the United States where, under the best possible auspices, she will be afforded an opportunity of adopting a moving picture career at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Culver City.
