MEETING OF COUNCIL (From Our Own Correspondent.) WHANG ARE I, To-day. The regular meeting of the Whangarei Borough Council was held hist evening when there were present the May&r, Mr. J. E. Holmes, Crs. Timewell, Tibbits, Rust, McKay, Hutchings, Meikle and Brainsby. Following discussion on a letter from Mr. J. North concerning the removal of obstructions from the Rau manga Stream, it was resolved on the motion of Cr Tibbits that the necessary notices be served on owners who have not yet been notified of their obllga--lo(jneo(jne of the unsuccessful applicantsfor the position of meter reader claimed for three and a-half days' work at £l. P us 4s "d train fare in coming from Maungaturoto. This led to a general discussion on the appointment made, Cr. Meikle averring that the choice had been a haphazard one. Cr. Timewed explained that all the finalists had had an equal chance, and as the three last men had so little between them the names were put in a hat and one drawn out. The man appointed was giving every satisfaction. The application for a refund was referred to the finance committee. The District Engineer >«.Z. Railways advised that he had again been approached by the departments advertising branch to be allowed to di»P la s advertisements on the overhead bridges. The council unanimously objected to any hoardings being eredted on the new overhead. Residents of GoVries Road and Hassard Street wro?e requesting that the footpaths in these thoroughfares he constructed and the letters were referred to the "otks committee. Another request from Mr. K S Finch regarding the dedication of woods Road was similarly dealt
