N.S.W. Parliament. —The Executive Council has prorogued the State Parliament to June 7. —A. and N.Z. Commercial Travellers’ Conference.— The next conference of the United Commercial Travellers’ Association will be held in Wellington. Delegates in conference in Auckland yesterday made this decision. Pigeon Derby. —Only three out of seven entrants for the Onehunga Pigeon Club’s derby from Palmerston North to Auckland on Saturday homed in the day. such were the adverse flying conditions encountered en route. The winner was Mr. H. Davis’s b c c Speculation, with a velocity of 905yds. per minute. Producers’ Grievance.— Mr. W. J. Poison, president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, said at Wanganui yesterday that the producers had a grievance against city education, inasmuch i.s it robbed the agriculturist of the bright country boys who, sent to secondary schools in the cities, did not return to the land. This was a serious handicap. Strange Occurrence. —To have a carrier pigeon come down a chimney, fly over a low fire and perch on the hot grate was the unusual occurrence which took place at the house of Mr. C. J. Parlane, Frankt.on, early last evening. What inducement the bird had to come down the chimney is difficult to surmise, though probably it was an accident. The carrier’s number was W.G. 26-27-531. Tram and Bus Collide. —A collision between an outward-bound Remuera tram and a motor-lorry owned by John Burns and Co. occurred in Beach Road at 4.30 p.m. yesterday. The driving compartment of the car was completely wrecked, the motorman, Mr. I. Ball, having a narrow escape from injury. Thd motor-lorry was undamaged.
