WHOLESALE FEDERATION
FOR POWER BOARDS SUGGESTION TURNED DOWN Believing that no useful purpose could be served by a federation of power boards for the buying of their requirements, the Waitemata board turned down a suggestion to-day that the opinions of other boards should be gathered on the subject. Mr. J. McLeod moved: ‘That a circular letter be sent to all electric power boards in the Dominion, suggesting that a wholesale federation be formed for the purpose of purchasing all requirements of the boards at the lowest possible prices.” He instanced the success of farmers’ organisations and said that the boards would get their goods at much cheaper rates. Mr. G. Trevethick: It is not possible to obtain better prices than the ones given at present by the merchants. Power boards are treated even more leniently than contractors. A discussion showed that a substantial majority of the board was against the proposal and it was easily defeated.
