AN AUSTRALIAN ARTICLE INDUSTRIALISTS COMPLAIN At yesterday’s meeting of the Industrial Association lengthy correspondence was read in connection with the action of the Minister of Customs in consenting to the importation of an Australian-made rotary can-washer free of duty when a New Zealand company is manufacturing a similar washer, after a promise from him that the Australian-made article would be subject to a duty of 25 per cent, ad valorem plus 1 per cent, primage. It was stated that the Minister’s decision had already resulted in the loss of orders. After discussion it was decided to write the Minister of Customs asking for an explanation.
