SPECIAL FUNERAL SERVICE.
[Cl'MMIUIttflM.] A specif Funeral Service was held i„ the Catholic Church on Tui.-s.luy la.sf in connection with tlio deposition of the heart of tin; Into ltight llev. L)i'. E!l..v, Bishop of Samoa. Tin; heart was. brought from France by lii.s Lordship LV. Lamazc, ami was taken to Vara last week, whilst. ill tliu meantime, preparations were made at Apia for the ceremony of inter nt. As it hail been announced on Sundae lasl that, the heart\v. in hi h- brought in solemn procession to tin; Church at Apia, the Catholics were ail anxious to pav a last tribute of respect to their late "regretted and much-beloved Bishop. Accordingly, on Tuesday morning last, not less than (iUO persons were assembled in the Church at. \ ru-a. A procession was there organized, and about half-past, seven it began to move towards Apia. The children from the Girl's School at Savalalo walked Hist, followed hv their teachers. next the Catholics of Apia and surrounding districts. These were followed by the clergy, four of whom acted as pall-bearers, while four others carried the heart. Last of all came the Catholic chiefs, the cut cellists of Vaea College. and the natives residing at. the Mission Mouse at Apia, all of whrun wore crape. Tin; armour of the deceased Bishop, as well as that of his successor, was draped ill black, and carried inn liately in front of the heart. On arrival at the Church at Apia a sermon was preached hv Bishop Lauuize. and the heart was (lien deposited in a niche in the wall of the Church.
