The Samoan Trouble.

{From the Honolulu Gazette.)

FlttM Action hy the United States Fki.t NiiCBSSAHY in Washington to Pbhsbuvb ruii Autonomy ok tub Kinodom.

The following Washington dispatch of Oct. 3rd gives additional information on tho Samoanquestion to that contained in our San Frauciseo letter :

Tho Samoan <iu..-stiou has reached a point that makes its satisfactory settlement a matter of vory great concern to tho Uuited Slates, and tho most careful nttontion is now being paid to it by our Government. President Cleveland has recently takon hold of tho subjoi-t, and there is reason to believe that it will soon be laid before the Cabinet for consideration.

The recent cour.su of Germany in seizing and carrying off the Saiuonn King and setting up an insurgent iu iiis place, certainly appears to bo in flagrant violation of the agreement between that government and Great Britain and the United State?, that the autonomy of the Samomi Islands shall not bo disturbed. The Sainoans have revolted against* t'he King set irp by tin: Germans, and have liini and his party cooped up in the capital.,' It is easy- to set> that complications more or h-ss serious than uny that have gone may follow tho present situation, and there is a strong feeling lion.- that it is time for the United States tn take decisive steps towards curbing Germany's aggressions. Opinion is divided as to the best course for this Guvernmet.t to adopt; but from what cau bo learned in State Department circles, n movement of some kind may bo expected soon, nod it will not be in the direction of consenting to any further aggro.-sivo violations of Germany's ogre«mont. The continued independence and neutrality of the Samoan Islands aro of high importance to this Government especially, because the islands lie practically in the truck of all vessels using either of tho projected isthmian canals.
