ANOTHER AUSTRALIAN

| Jack Fryer Has Entered 1 j'dStattag Team For Big Races.: y •= » (By "SiR ORACLE.") 1 Specially interesting to Taranakl racing followers is the report that, irt the near future, the successful Hawent trainer Jack Fryer, is likely to' make Ins fourth trip across the Tasman. Within the past few seasons, Fryer has taken quite a number of Hawera-trained performers to Australia, including Bright Glow, Green Linnet, Copey, Peter Jackson, Gaine Carrington, Radiant Star, Oriel and Rollovant, and lie has met with quite fair success in his campaigns across the "other side." Following the Trentham meeting in July, Fryer contemplates taking ancfcher team across to Australia, and it is likely that the horses going across will inclde Le Grand, Onewhetu, Solo-, ist, Wotan, and Cynical Kid. As a two-year-old, Le Grand did not quite come up to expectations, but within the last few months he has proved himself to be one of the best hacks at present trained in Taranaki. Being highly bred, Le Grand gives promise of turning out a, good handicap winner, and he has been nominated for the ; "elboiure Cur, the Metropolitan Handicap, and the Caulileld Cup. Onewhetu Up To Best Class. Judging on this season's performances, it looks as if Onewhetu may prove to be the -'star performer of Jack Fryer's team in Ansujila. It is only a few months ago since Onewhetu was still at hack, but latterly he has shown outstanding form to prove without-:dd;i|rt that he is up to the besi. New Zealand middle-distance handicap class of the present time. A repetition of the notable form which Onewhetu showed at Ellerslie recently, when he equalled the course record for one mile and a quarter (and this run in winter-time), suggests that the' Hawera-trained- performer is likely to hold his own against the strongest Australian company. Onewhetu seems to thrive on racing and appears to be still capable of improvement. Among the leading races for which he has;., been nominated in Australia; are the A.J.C. Metropolitan Handicap, the Caulfield Cup, and the Moonee Valley Cup. /Although he has rather disappointed lately, Soloist has proved himself to be one of the best hurdlers at present in commission in the North, Island. For his Australian engagements, Soloist has been entered for the Australian Hurdles, but across the Tasman he is also likely to race as a steeplechaser. When racing over the hurdles at New Zealand fixtures, Soloist has shown himself to be an accomplished fencer, and he has all the credentials to turn out to be a decided acquisition to the ranks of the steeplechasers. Although he did not accept for the Grandstand Steeplechase on the firßt day at Wanganui, it is interesting to note that the handicapper weighted Soloist above even such a consistent steeplechaser as the recent Ellerslie winner, Forest Glow. If he takes on the big "country" in Australia, it would not be surprising to find Soloist figuring prominently in important steeplechasing events.

As far as Dominion racing is concerned, Wotan has probably been one of the biggest disappointments among the present three-year-olds. As a two-year-old, this half-brother to Game Carrington and Peter Jackson promised to reach the highest class, but so far this season,-he. has failed to reproduce his brilliant promise as a juvenile. Howeve, Wotan is bred "in the purple," and should he strike form, Jack Fryer's stable is likely to have quite solid representation in the, Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. Heap More Than Premising! There are few better judges of steeplechasers about than is Jack Fryer, and it is an open secret that Jack regards Cynical Kid as being a whole heap more than just promising. Cynical Kid's Australian nominations include the Australian Hurdles and Steeples, and in view of these likely engagements, he will be closely watched at Trentham,
