Sixteen Workmen Killed In Building Accident.

Press Association —Copyright. N?w iTork, June 20. Sixteen workmen were- killed and a score were injured in one of the most serious construction accidents of recent years yesterday. An almost completed six-storey apartment house ft the Bronx collapsed. It required several hours' work to remove the bodies and release some of the injured. The collapse was apparently caused by- plumbers boring through a column for piping. The building was designed to house 60 families. Five bodies wer_ found yesterday, but. the collapse developed into a major disaster to-day as wrecking crews found 11 additional bodies. At least one .workman is still missing and, it is, feared he is dead.

The jumble of timbers, bricks and mortar was so deep it required 24 hours' frantic work to find the bodies, and the bottom of the pile has not yet been reached.
